P2P day 18

Today’s theme.....wind.  Second day in a row with a lot of head wind turned what should have been a pretty easy day into a tough one.  I did get a couple of good photos however.

To get this shot I had to ride about 5 miles out of the way.  This is Devil’sTower in Crook County, Wyoming.
Devil’s Tower facts:

  • Devil’s Tower was formed over the course of about 175 million years through a series of geologic events.
  • The tower is composed of layers of sandstone, siltstone, shale, gypsum, limestone and magma
  • The 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind used the formation as a plot element in its climactic scenes.

Another monument I photographed is known as Paul’s Post-Ride Tower (shown below)

Paul’s Post-Ride Tower facts:
  • Paul’s Post-Ride Tower was formed in about 30 seconds in a hotel breakfast room.
  • The tower is composed primarily of beer and aluminum
  • Beer has been in a lot of movies

By the way, a portion of one of the towers collapsed today leaving the tower 1/3 of its original size.

Off to state #6, South Dakota tomorrow.  Only 103 miles and 6,100’ of climbing to do.

Out.

  1. I am choosing to interpret your facts on Paul's Post-Ride Tower to mean you drank 3 beers and turned the cans into a tower in 30 seconds, making it the most impressive thing I've read on this blog to date.
